Sonia L. Hershey

Sonia L. Hershey, 85, a life-long resident of Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022 at Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community.

Born in Carlisle, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Lucy Cooper Monismith.

Sonia worked as a dietary aide at the old Carlisle Hospital for 45 years. She was a member of Carlisle Moose Lodge # 761 and the Carlisle Fraternal Order of Eagles # 1299.

She was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Los Angeles Dodgers fan, loved playing bingo, going to the casino and doing scratch-off lottery tickets.

Sonia volunteered at Cumberland Crossings, welcoming people as they came in and was highly involved in many of the social activities.

She loved her family very much and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her daughters: Kimberly Rudy (Marlin), of Carlisle, Vicky Shoenberger (Frank), of Mechanicsburg, Jackie Fielding (Chris), of Frederick, MD, Lucy Hays (Ralph), of Shippensburg; seven grandchildren: Jen, Mike, John, Dawn, Melissa, Derek and Noah; nine great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.

Sonia was preceded in death by 17 siblings, two sons: John and Steve, her daughter-in-law: Sharon Hershey and her companion: Leon “Larry” Brenneman.

Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 2022 at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle and to her graveside service 11 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2022 at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, 1921 Ritner Highway, Carlisle.
