Sarah M. Hefelfinger

Sarah M. Hefelfinger, 97, of Carlisle died Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at M. S. Hershey Medical Center.
Born September 24, 1916 in New Oxford, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Mary Myers Spangler and the widow of Frank W. Hefelfinger.
She was a graduate of Hanover High School, Class of 1934 and attended Duke University. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle, where she was a Sunday School teacher and served on the church council. She was a former member of the Board of Directors for Sarah A. Todd Nursing Home, where she served as Board President for several terms. She was a founding board member of One West Penn. She was a member of the Carlisle Civic Club, the YWCA and a charter member of the Mary Dickinson Club. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and also received a Volunteer of the Year Award by the Carlisle Chamber of Commerce.
Surviving are two daughters: Barbara L. Sackman of Sands Point, Long Island, NY and Frances M. Russell of Indianapolis, In; one son, James F. Hefelfinger of Locust Valley, Long Island, NY: eight grandchildren; and eighteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Spangler; one step-sister, Mary Dittrich and one step-brother, James Spangler.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 East High Street, Carlisle with Rev. Lisa M. Leber officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. The family will receive friends at the family home at 1229 Hillside Drive, Carlisle at 3:00 p.m.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
