Russell K. Deckert

June 14, 1953 — January 7, 2022

Russell K. Deckert, 68, of Newville, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 7, 2022, at his home.
He was born June 14, 1953, in Schuylkill County to the late King R. and Norma J. (Brink) Deckert and was the widower of Linda K. (Fike) Deckert.
Russell loved his family and friends. He would spend his days working on his personal projects with his son, Calvin. Russ would habitually make himself available for anyone that needed his assistance and he loved to be part of any project that he could be involved in.
Russ retired from John W. Gleim Jr. Inc, Russ’s work can be seen all of over Pennsylvania, including in the building that his service will be held in. He could be at the controls of any piece of heavy equipment and operate it with ease. He seemed to know exactly how to operate it and how to fix them, whether it was with a screwdriver or a swift kick and coarse language.
Russ loved animals from the Shelties that he had for many years to Bug, the family horse. He also loved hunting, unlike his son who used his car to control the local deer population, he would go into the mountain and enjoy all that nature could offer.
Many people have expressed how much they owe to Russell. Russ was a great teacher and a mentor. Russ would mentor from laborer to super and drop everything if you asked for help.
Russ is survived by his brother-in-law, Fred Fike of Mechanicsburg. His son Calvin Deckert passed only two days after him. Russ’s memory will live on in the hearts and minds of everything that had the honor of having him in their lives.
Memorial services for both Russell and Calvin will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, February 4, 2022, at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 with Pastor Ed Rosenberry officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
Contributions in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, https://www.alz.org.
