Ronald F. Lang

January 16, 1949 — April 12, 2020

Ronald F. Lang, 71, of Carlisle, embarked on the last great adventure, April 12, 2020, at his residence in Carlisle with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Evansville, Indiana to the late Joseph and Virginia Guy Lang and was raised by his guardians, the late Paul and Anne Gartner.

Ron retired after 35 plus years from IBM/Geodis/Washington Group as an Administrative Analyst. He received his Associates degree from Penn State University. Ron honorably served his country with the US Army during the Vietnam Conflict.

A multi-faceted man, Ron was a talented gardener and an avid hiker, among many other things. His love of plants and flowers created beauty in his own back yard, and along with his Garden Club friends, in public places around town. His passion for hiking took him from the LeTort Spring Run Nature Trail, portions of the Appalachian trail and various National Park trails, to hiking Mt. Whitney. A gifted storyteller, Ron recently began to attend a Writer’s Workshop at Bosler Library, so he could spin some of the stories from his early childhood in an orphanage into a novel. Whenever Ron wanted to accomplish something, he acquired the necessary skills to complete the task. With no previous experience, he designed a beautiful garage and built it with just one assistant. He could never resist a challenge.

Ron’s love of life, optimism, and enthusiasm were contagious. Always willing to share his time and talents he made an impact on everyone he met, and did much for his family, friends, and community. To borrow one of his long-time friend’s words: Ron burned with such a bright light and the world will be poorer for his loss.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Devera J. Manus Lang of Carlisle; two daughters, Tania C. Lass and her husband Michael of Round Hill, VA, Sonja J. Lang-Gerber and her husband Jason of Carlisle; and a sister, Judy Cutsinger and her husband David of Princeton, Indiana. Also surviving are Ron’s loving five grandchildren, Caine Sigel, Katie and Eric Lass, Anna and Mo Gerber. He was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Lang.

According to Ron’s wishes services will be private and held at the convenience of his family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Ron’s name be made to the following charities: United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County, 145 S. Hanover St., Carlisle, PA 17013, Carlisle Garden Club (https://www.carlislegardenclub.org), Central PA Conservancy, 401 E. Louther St. Ste. 308, Carlisle, PA 17013, or to Vickie’s Angel Walk, 511 Bridge St. New Cumberland, PA 17070.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road, Carlisle PA.
