Robert (Bob) L. Whitcomb

December 3, 1947 — July 25, 2016

Robert (Bob) L. Whitcomb, 68, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, July 25, 2016, with his family at his side.

Born on December 3, 1947 in Mechanicsburg, he was the son of the late Robert W. Whitcomb and Betty (Zimmerman) Whitcomb and the widower of Victoria (Lewis) Whitcomb.

Robert was a US Navy Veteran who served from 1967-1972 on both the USS Tullibee (SSN-957) nuclear submarine and USS Edward McDonnell (DE-1043) destroyer. After working for both AMP, Inc. (Carlisle and Harrisburg) and Dentsply (York), Robert retired in 2012 from Dentsply, where he had created several patented prototypes as a valued member of their Research and Development team. Throughout his life, Robert enjoyed the races at Silver Springs and Williams Grove Speedways, built custom cars, was a local and NASCAR racing aficionado, read avidly, and was a lifetime member of the Twin Oaks Hunting Club.

Bob's most cherished moments were times spent with his family. He always tried to give more of himself than he received from each person that he encountered. He was loyal, supportive, and had a sharp sense of humor.

Robert was a beloved father and grandfather and is survived by his two daughters, Stacy Whitcomb and Christina Iwanowicz, along with her husband Joseph and their children, Robert's two grandchildren, Alina and Liam. He will also be missed by his sister, Kathy Heckard and her husband, Dennis, as well as by sister-in law Deena Nedimyer and her husband, Stephen, sister-in-law Pamela Laudermilch, sister-in-law Beverly Cordier and her husband, Steven, and brother-in-law James Foote, and his wife, Kathy.

No services will be held. Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Rd., is handling final arrangements.
