Richard Eugene Sipe

Richard Eugene Sipe, 91, of Carlisle, passed away Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the UPMC Pinnacle West Shore Hospital.
He was born June 26, 1926, in Lower Frankford Township to the late Samuel and Ida Ruth (Keck) Sipe.
Richard was a WWII Veteran serving as a gunner’s mate in the Navy from 1944-1946. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Community United Methodist Church where he served on the church council and as an usher. He was a member of the Carlisle Fish & Game Association, and the Central PA Shoe and Leather Association. He worked for Kinney Shoe as a shoe pattern engineer for 10 years before opening Richard Sipe Shoe Patterns. After retirement, Richard worked part time for NAPA Auto Parts, Carlisle. Dick enjoyed the outdoors and shared his love of hunting and fishing with family and friends.
He is survived by: his wife of 73 years, Pauline Mildred (Westhafer) Sipe of Carlisle; two sons, Barry E. (Cheryl) Sipe of Carlisle, and Richard E. (Michele) Sipe II of Gardners; one sister, Vesta Marie Bear of Carlisle; four grandchildren, Christopher Sipe, Jennifer Swartz, Brianna Crum, Mariele Miller, and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Lee Sipe, and eight sisters, Florence Viola Sipe, Sarah Elizabeth Shambaugh, Ruth Mae Adams, Clara Ellen Derrick, Ann Grace Sites, Mary Romayne Yohn, Martha Edna Strine, and Lottie Louise Lloyd.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 with Rev. William E. Pipp officiating. Burial will follow in the Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens. A viewing will be held from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Wednesday.
