Richard Earl Park

January 3, 1925 — November 7, 2013

Richard Earl (Dick) Park of Edgewater, FL passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2013. He was the son of Richard O. and Clara Park of Carlisle, PA. He graduated from Carlisle High School with the class of 1943. Dick served in the U.S. Navy as a signalman in the Pacific theater from 1943 to 1946 and was involved in five LST Pacific Island invasions.

Dick retired from the West Shore School District, south central PA, where he held the position of Manager of Maintenance and Operations He was a 66 year member of the Star Masons, St Johns Royal Arch Masons, and St Johns Knights Templar, all of Carlisle, PA, and was a life member of the VFW and Carlisle Elks, as well as a fifty year member of the American Legion. He attended the Coronado Community United Methodist Church of New Smyrna Beach, Fl.

Dick was a jazz man and an active musician from age 16 until age 75. He originally played the trumpet in big bands and later switched to the drums due to his outstanding sense of timing, tasteful licks, and his Billy Eckstine-esque voice.

Dick joins his parents, Richard and Clara, five Sisters, Esther, Elizabeth, Marian, Anne, and Charlotte, and a brother, Harry. He is survived by Beverly 'Rosenberger' Park his wife of 41 years; three daughters, Diane (Alan) Haines, Luane Gundrum (Michael), and Margaret (Ed) Blacksmith; one son, Richard (Kathy) Park, Jr; two granddaughters, Julie Zimmer and Katie Blacksmith; one grandson, Kyle Turns; three great grandchildren, Cameron, Reece, and Dylan.

Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
