The Rev. Dr. Donald H. Treese, 80, of Carlisle, died Friday, January 21, 2011 at Thornwald Home, Carlisle.
Born September 11, 1930 in Ormenia, PA, a son of the Late Watson I. and Bessie A. Hughes Treese.
Don graduated from Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA with B. A. Degree in 1952 and graduated in 1955 from the University of Chicago Theological Seminary with a Bachelor of Divinity. He retired in 1993 as a pastor for the United Methodist Church after serving the following churches in Central Pennsylvania: Allenport, Mount Union, 1950-52; Hopewell, Summer, 1953; Williamsport, Pine Street, Associate Pastor, 1955-56; Lycoming College, Director of Religious Activities, 1956-57; Newport, 1957-61; Gettysburg, 1961-65; Williamsport, Newberry, 1965-69; Altoona, First, 1969-73; Allison Memorial in Carlisle 1973-79. Donald served as Associate General Secretary of the Division of Ordained Ministry, Board of Higher Education and Ministry in Nashville, TN from 1979-1993. Donald was an avid fisherman, baseball fan and jazz aficionado.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Lois W. Treese of Carlisle and three children: Joel D. Treese of Washington, DC, Laura G. Treese of Lewistown, MT and Hope A., Doherty (and her husband James H.), of Columbia, MD; one grandson, Evan Doherty of Columbia, MD; one brother, Merrill I. Treese of Williamsburg and one sister, Marjorie T. Clarke of Martinsburg and one niece, Cathy C. Bernard (and husband, Bernie) of Hollidaysburg, PA.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday January 27, 2011 at Allison United Methodist Church, 99 Mooreland Avenue, Carlisle with Rev. Thomas Mauer, Rev. Dr. Paul Herring and Rev. Dr. James L. Waits officiating. Burial will be in Royer Cemetery, Blair County. A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the church and also from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
