Raymond E. Melius

Raymond E. Melius, age 84, of Carlisle and formerly of Fort Littleton, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at the Falling Springs Nursing Home, Chambersburg.
He was born October 26, 1932 in Hustontown, PA to the late Calvin and Annie (Snyder) Melius and was the widower of Jean Betty (Hess) Melius who passed away February 1969.
Raymond was a 1951 graduate of Hustontown High School. He was drafted and served in the US Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict. He worked 8 years for the Department of Highways, 16 years for B.P. Motor Express and then drove for Carolina Freight for 15 years. He was a Teamster for 40 years. He also drove a van for Appalachian Inn and Econo Lodge for 8 years before fully retiring in October 2001 when he started as a school crossing guard for 12 years. Raymond was a lifetime member of the Hustontown Volunteer Fire Co. and was also a member of the North Middleton Volunteer Fire Co. where he also was a member of the Fire Police for over 30 years. He was a member of the Fulton County Honor Guard for 44 years and a member of the Cumberland County Honor Guard for 24 years. Raymond was a member of: the VFW and American Legion of McConnellsburg for 30 years; the Moose, Eagles and White Circle Club of Carlisle; the Senior Action Center; the Mora Club; the local AARP Club; and was in charge of the Caroline Coffee Break for 22 years.
He is survived by: his companion of 45 years, Sandy Houck of 6 Mile Run; a son, Ronald E. (and wife Patty) Melius of Landisburg; a step-son, Wesley Houck of Kileen, TX; three daughters, Audrey K. (and husband Clair, Sr.) Slates of Three Springs, PA, Diane M. Yocum and companion Paul Hugg of Hustontown, PA and Bonnie J. (and husband Ronald II) Wolfe of Harlem, GA; two step-daughters, Sandra Foor of Chambersburg and Evelyn Melius of Chambersburg; a brother, Allen (and wife Rose) Melius of Chambersburg; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and numerous great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, Raymond was preceded in death by: a son, Roger Melius, Sr.; a step-son, John Houck; three sisters, Judy Bradnick, Helen Krugh and Dorothy Keefer; and a brother, Donald Melius.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2017 at Sipe Funeral Home, 873 Lincoln Highway West, McConnellsburg, PA with Rev. Tim Halbfoerster officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg with full military honors provided by the Fulton County Honor Guard. There will be a viewing on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA and at the Sipe Funeral Home on Friday from 12:00 noon until the time of the services.
