Miriam S. Neff, 100, of Carlisle, died Thursday, December 5, 2013 at her home.
Born October 31, 1913 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late Nathaniel and Mabel Heckman Strause and the widow of Norman L. Neff, Sr.
She was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1932. Miriam retired from Hunts Crystal Plant, Carlisle after twenty-four years of service as supervisor and later from Troy Laundry after twelve years of service. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for seventy-five years and recently joined First United Church of Christ. Miriam was a member of NARFE, Chapter 373 and the Local Chapter of AARP #4377, Carlisle. She enjoyed going on bus trips to dinner theaters and traveling all over the U.S. Miriam was an avid reader and enjoyed going to lunch with friends. She loved attending Second Tuesdayers at her church.
Surviving are her daughter, Betty Jean Shatto and son, Norman L. Neff (and companion, Mary Kathryn Kephart); three grandsons, Robert Shatto (and wife, Michelle), Chad Anzalone (and wife, Heather), and Mark Neff (and wife, Jeannette); three granddaughters, Linda Martin, Nancy J. Sturm (and husband, James) and Amy Gomez (and husband, James); eight great-grandsons, Timothy and David Hippert, Michael Sturm (and wife, Kristen), Mark Sturm (and wife, Nancy L.), Derek Shatto, Mark Neff, Jr., Justin Neff, and Eric Anzalone; and two great-granddaughters, Amber Smith (and husband, Kevin) and Victoria Neff; seven great-great-grandchildren, Alyssa Martson, Chase and Taylor Sturm, Bryce and Easton Smith, Ryan Sturm and Natalie Morgan. In addition to her parents, Miriam was preceded in death by a brother Forrest Strause and two sisters, Alma Gelsinger and Rachel Blythe.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 13, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle. Burial will be in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m., until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Church of Christ, 30 North Pitt Street, Carlisle, PA 17013 or Horizons Hospice, 1200 Camp Hill Bypass, Suite 201, Camp Hill, PA 17011 for the extraordinary love and care given to Miriam.
