Mary V. Shearer, 94, of Carlisle died Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at the Harrisburg Hospital.
Born August 10, 1918 in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late John and Bertha Cassel Thoman and the widow of Raymond P. Shearer.
Mary owned and operated a beauty shop in Carlisle for nearly 50 years. She was a member of St. Matthews United Church of Christ, Carlisle and during her early years a member of their Women’s Guild. Mary was a dedicated mother and housewife who enjoyed camping, traveling and her family.
Surviving are two sons, John Shearer (and wife, Rebecca) of Bonita Springs, FL and Thomas Shearer (and wife, Myrna) of Lock Haven; one daughter, Patricia Rockwell (and husband, Robert) of Carlisle; six grandchildren: Rob Rockwell of Walnut Bottom, Tory Rockwell (and wife, Kelly) of Newville, Joni Santos (and husband, John) of Naples, FL, Kelly Raymer (and husband, Rick) of Naples, FL, Jessica Perez (and husband, Joseph) of North Arlington, NJ, and Rachel Godbee (and husband, Ronald) of Harrisburg; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Thoman and four sisters: Ruth Darr, Pearl Zeigler, Gladys Klingler, and Dorothy Karper.
Funeral services will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Matthews United Church of Christ, 3240 Spring Road, Carlisle Springs, PA 17013.
