Marjorie Lois Dailey Cowles, 82, a resident of Chapel Pointe at Carlisle, died Thursday March 3, 2011 in Chapel Pointe.
Born June 9, 1928 in Sayre, PA, she was a daughter of the late George and Alma Dailey.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years Rev. H. Robert Cowles, a son Daniel, three daughters, Rebecca Cowles Swanson and husband John, Deborah Jane Cowles and Esther Schaeffer and husband Andrew, a brother Richard Dailey, two sisters, Norma Dailey Gardner and husband Andrew and Mariane Dailey Holbrook and husband John, eight grandchildren: Sarah Marjorie Swanson Weisenburn and husband Robert, R. Paul Shaeffer, H. David Schaeffer, Stephen A. Schaeffer, Mark D. Schaeffer, Rebekah Jane Schaeffer, Eric J. Swanson and wife Shana, Kristen Swanson Dutcher and husband Erik and four great-grandchildren Rachel and Nicholas Dutcher, Rebecca Skoller and Rakel Swanson and sister-in-law Elizabeth Cowles Huck and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding her in death were two sisters, Evelyn Dailey Putnam and Eleanor Dailey Lake and a brother, John David Dailey.
Marjorie served with her husband as a missionary to the Philippine Islands from 1952 to 1963. She received her bachelor’s degree from SUNY Empire State College in 1976. She worked for many years in the academic and admissions offices of Nyack College and the Alliance Theological Seminary, Nyack, NY, advising and mentoring countless students.
Our family’s heartbreak is tempered by fond recollections of Marjorie’s tender love, a life of service to her Lord and Savior and our confidence that she will enjoy His presence through eternity.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, March 6, 2011 at the Henry Chapel at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle, 770 S. Hanover St., Carlisle with the Rev. Walter Frankenberry officiating. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm Sunday until the time of the service. Burial will be at Letort Cemetery, Carlisle.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
