Marjorie C. Bullock

September 14, 1927 — May 14, 2020

Marjorie Campbell Bullock (Marge), age 92, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2020 at the Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community.

She was born on September 14, 1927 in Edinboro, PA and was the daughter of the late Earl Phelps and May Padden Campbell.

Marge graduated from the State Teachers College at Edinboro (now Edinboro University) in 1949 with a bachelor’s degree in art education and started a career as an art teacher with the Sugar Creek School District in northwestern PA. In 1953, Marge married her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, then Lieutenant Richard S. Bullock (Dick). Soon after, she joined Dick at his post in Hanau, Germany. For the next twenty-seven years, Marge traveled Europe and the United States as she accompanied Dick in his military career and they raised two children, Richard Jr. (Ike) and Jennie. A dedicated spouse and mother, Marge was particularly proud of her service in support groups for military families and wives. In the summer of 1970, Marge and Dick reported to Carlisle Barracks, where they spent the final ten years of Dick’s career as he served as a student and faculty member at the U.S. Army War College. Marge was very involved in service activities at Carlisle Barracks, including chairing the Chapel Altar Guild and Red Cross Volunteers; participating in committees for the Christmas Tea, the Home Tour, and other activities of the Officers’ Wives Club; and volunteering at the Thrift Shop for over twenty years. In 1980, Dick and Marge purchased their treasured home, a converted barn, which Marge decorated beautifully for each season and where the family has gathered for holidays for forty years. Marge especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading, gardening, spectating athletic events, and lunching with her friends. After Dick passed away in 2016, Marge took great pride in continuing to care for their home, with the help of her family and kind neighbors.

Marge spent most of her last year at Cumberland Crossings, where she received excellent care from the loving nurses. Memorial contributions may be made to Cumberland Crossings Nursing Scholarship Fund, 1 Longsdorf Way, Carlisle PA 17015.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents and beloved husband, Col. (Ret.) Richard S. Bullock. She is survived by her son, Ike (wife Jobil) Bullock of Virginia Beach; daughter, Jennifer (late husband Patrick) Dieter of Mt. Holly Springs; granddaughter Marjorie Dieter and grandsons Austin Dieter and Rick (wife Laura) and Charles Bullock; and great-grandchildren, Cloey Mulligan and Nick Bullock. She is also survived by her only brother, Chuck (wife Carol) Campbell.

Interment will be private at Westminster Cemetery.

Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA is handling the arrangements.
