Marian Anne Ryder

Marian Anne Ryder, 74, of Carlisle died Saturday, Oct. 15, 2011, at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

Born July 30, 1937, in Carlisle, she was a daughter of the late C. Lloyd and Bertha Mae Hess Ryder.

She was a graduate of Boiling Springs High School. She was employed by Thomas Jewelry Company of Carlisle for 19 years and GC Murphy& Company of Mechanicsburg and retired after 26 years of service at the Book of the Month Club.

She was a faithful member of Hickorytown United Methodist Church, also the church choir, and the Hickorytown United Methodist Women. Her family, friends and church family were very important to her. She was a member of The Hickorytown Girls, Shamrocks and was known as the "card lady."

Marian had 34 years of perfect attendance at the Hickorytown United Methodist Sunday School. She was also a member of the Claremont Nursing & Rehabilitation Ladies Auxiliary.

Surviving are brothers and sisters Charlotte Ruth Casto of Carlisle, Harvey L. Ryder (and wife, Marlene K.) of Dillsburg and Weir G. Ryder Sr. (and wife Eva M.) of Dillsburg; and seven nieces and nephews, Judith A. Shughart (and husband, David), Robert D. Casto (and wife, Pam), Darrell L. Casto (and wife, Sue), Brandon L. Ryder, Kimberley Menkhorst (and husband, Eddie), Weir G. Ryder, Jr. (and wife, Carrie) and Kristi A. Raykos (and husband, Jeff).

She was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, J. Dale Casto.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at Hickorytown United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Iva L. O'Brien officiating. Burial will be in LeTort Cemetery, Carlisle.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, and from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hickorytown United Methodist Church, 1510 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA 17015.
