Lee S. Marzolf

April 6, 1920 — December 22, 2018

Lee Seibert Marzolf, age 98, of Carlisle, passed away December 22nd at home surrounded by his family. He was born April 6, 1920, in Harrisburg to the late Albert Eugene and Edna (Richmond) Marzolf and was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie (Watson) Marzolf, to whom he had been married 53 years.

Lee was a 1938 graduate of William Penn High School, Harrisburg, PA. He attended one year at Bob Jones College, Cleveland, TN, before joining the army in 1941. During WWII, he served as an Intelligence Specialist and attained the rank of Staff Sergeant. While stationed on Ascension Island, he plotted merchant shipping in the South Atlantic. During his years of service, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the American Defense Service Medal, the American Theater Service Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. After his honorable discharge, he remained in the National Reserves until 1952.

After the war, he enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh majoring in Business. After graduation in 1949, he took coursework in Business Management at Purdue University. Lee began his career with the Pennsylvania Railroad and retired as the Harrisburg Terminal Manager for Johnson Motor Lines.

Lee was a member of Green Street Church of God in Harrisburg for 60 years and was active in the Harrisburg West Camp of The Gideons International, serving as the Memorial Bible Secretary. Lee was instrumental in the formation of the Gideon Camp in Fulton County, PA. He also belonged to the Robert Burns Lodge for 60 years.

Lee is survived by two daughters, Sheila Marzolf Threlfall (husband David) of Carlisle, PA and Jill Leslie Marzolf of New Oxford, PA; two grandsons, Timothy Michael Threlfall (wife Laura) of Krum, TX and Matthew Lee Threlfall of Fayetteville, WV; one great-granddaughter; and eight nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 28th followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. at Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA. Burial with military honors will be in the Rolling Green Cemetery, 1811 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA.
