Judith Beery Carter

Judith Beery Carter, age 74, of York Springs, passed away on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Judy was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 20, 1944, to the late John M. and Isabel (Andrew) Beery. She spent her early years in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ and graduated from Ridgewood High School in 1962. She attended Susquehanna University graduating with a B.A. in English in 1966. At Susquehanna, Judy met Joseph Carter, and they were married in 1966. She worked in higher education at Washington & Lee University, Ferrum College, and Dickinson College from which she retired as Financial Aid Director in 2010. She had particular pleasure in assisting international students during her career. Active outside her career, she worked on Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Squads in both Florida and Virginia. She was a strong advocate for self-education regarding medical concerns and volunteered for the PA Breast Cancer Coalition and was an advisor for The Chordoma Foundation. Above all, Judy enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph L. Carter; two daughters, Roxanne D. Carter of Dillsburg, Timbrel C. Wallace (husband Scott) of Gettysburg; one brother, James M. Beery; and two grandchildren, Nicholas C. Wallace and Grayson P. Wallace.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 9, 2018, at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Rd., Carlisle, PA with Rev. P.A. Harmon officiating. There will be a visitation on Sunday at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be held in Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery.
