Joseph Donald Edwards, Jr.

Joseph Donald Edwards, Jr. age 78, of Carlisle, passed away Thursday, September 07, 2017 at the Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
He was born February 16, 1939 in Pottsville to the late Joseph Donald Sr., and Winifred Grace (Miller) Edwards.
He received a Master’s Degree in Science from Trinity University, San Antonio, TX and an MSW in Social Work from Tulane University. Joseph was a United States Army veteran who retired from the Medical Service Corps. He was Executive Director for Systems, Inc. of Pottsville. Joseph worked for the Department of Mental Health and Retardation at the Department of Veterans Affairs for approximately 18 years. He was founder of Heart of Texas Hospice, Temple, TX and the founder of the Spinal Cord Injury Center, Temple UMAC.
He is survived by: his wife of 38 years, Elza (Porcel) Edwards of Carlisle; three children, April Annette Edwards of Atlanta, GA, Heather Louise Russo of Orwigsburg, PA and Victoria Porcel Edwards of Carlisle; three grandchildren, Eric Campos, John Russo and Sierra Russo; and one sister, Victoria Mae Shade of New Ringgold, PA.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, PA with the Very Rev. William C. Forrey as Celebrant. Burial will be at private and held at the convenience of the family at Salem Evangelical Cemetery. There will be a viewing on Monday, September 11, 2017 at the church from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA.
