John S. Mowbray

John S. "Jack" Mowbray, 78, of Carlisle, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Johns Hopkins, Baltimore, MD.
Born November 1, 1934 in Hartford, Ct, he was a son of the late Col. John S. and Nora Bean Keely Mowbray.
He received an AB Degree in Education from Franklin and Marshall College; MS Degree in General Education from Temple University; MA in Mathematics from Bucknell University; and a PhD in Mathematics from University of Pittsburgh. He taught mathematics as a professor with Shippensburg University with over 38 years of service. Jack was a member of the PA Council of Teachers of Mathematics; he was also a member of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics; Mathematics Association of America; Central PA Mathematics Association; and National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics; MENSA. He was an advisor of T.O.U.C.H. (Today's Organization Utilizing Concerned Humans) from 1972-1982 which was the largest and most active social service organization at Shippensburg University at the time. Trolleys were Jack's passion throughout his life which led to his longtime membership and becoming Chairman of the board of the Rockhill Trolley Museum in Huntingdon County. Jack was also a member of the Brethren in Christ Church, Carlisle.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Natalie B. Mowbray of Carlisle; two daughters, Marjorie Mowbray of Hanover, and Jana Mowbray of Carlisle. He was preceded in death by one brother, David K. Mowbray.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Brethren in Christ Church, 1155 Walnut Bottom Road, Carlisle with Rev. Ken Hoke and Rev. Linda Lambert co-officiating. Family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday.
