John R. Lichtenberger

John R. Lichtenberger, 79, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, August 9, 2015.
He was born in Cumberland County on May 27, 1936 to the late Harry E. and Ellen Baitzell Lichtenberger.
John attended Mechanicsburg schools and worked at the Carlisle Machine Shop for over 40 years. He also served in the United States Army. He had a love for farming as well as restoring antique tractors. John's faith in Christ was the foundation of his life. He was a founding member of West Shore Evangelical Free Church and served there in many ways. John was a man who always had a smile on his face and was known for his warm greetings and a handshake that made everyone feel welcomed. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by everyone who was blessed to know him.
He is survived by his wife, Patsy Deitch Lichtenberger; daughter, Brenda (and husband Don) Waardenburg; grandchildren, Jacob (and wife Kate) Waardenburg, Alexander (and wife Tiffany) Waardenburg and Anna (and husband Charles) Barry; great-grandchildren, Chloe, Melissa and Allison; and sisters, Edith Lehman, Elizabeth Myers, Fannie Jones, Grace Pierce and Ethel (and husband Charles, Jr.) Barnett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Harry Lichtenberger and Robert Lichtenberger and sisters, Mary Alspaugh and Ruth Brougher.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 14, 2015 at West Shore Evangelical Free Church, 1345 Williams Grove Road, Mechanicsburg, PA. Burial will be at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens with military honors. There will be a viewing and visitation from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Friday.
