Jane W. Long, 85, of Carlisle, died Thursday, May 17, 2012 at her home with her family and Cassius, her cat, by her side.
Born June 22, 1926 in Omaha, NE, she was a daughter of the late Carl and Mary Bell Wells Weinhardt.
She was a seasoned military wife who decided to make Carlisle her final home. Jane retired from George L. Ebener and Associates Realtors. She was a volunteer for the Cumberland County Historical Society. She was a member and past president of the Carlisle Civic Club, and the Carlisle Branch of AAUW (Tri-Delta Sorority). An avid bridge player, for many years she ran the AAUW's bridge flight. She was an accomplished needlewoman and a member of the Susquehanna Chapter of the Embroiders Guild of America (EGA). She enjoyed local theater, gardening and reading. Jane was a 1944 graduate of Omaha's Central High School. She graduated with a BS in Physics from the Iowa State University in 1948.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary E. Long who resided with her; one son, Ronald R. Long (and wife, Valerie) of Allentown; two granddaughters, Dr. Shannon Long Hawkins, VMD and (and husband, Matt Hawkins) of Schwenksville and Jane’s only great-granddaughter, Madeline Ella and Andrea Long of Virginia; one sister, Joan Dickson of Ann Arbor, MI; and one brother, John Weinhardt of San Jose, CA.
Services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
