James E. Malinish, Sr., age 82, of Carlisle, passed away Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at his home with his loving family by his side.
He was born February 18, 1935 in Calumet, PA to the late John and Mary M. (Barron) Malinish.
Jim had retired from Carolina Freight after driving for them over 36 years and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. Jim enjoyed working on cars, NASCAR, especially Dale Earnhardt, Jr., camping and was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan. His family meant the most to him and he enjoyed the time he spent with his loving wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by: his wife of 58 years, Florence A. (Stinebiser) Malinish of Carlisle; a son, James E. (wife Lori) Malinish, Jr. of Carlisle; two daughters, Michele A. (husband Larry) Thrush of Boiling Springs and Melanie A. (husband John) Messner of Duncannon; two sisters, Jean Henry of Greensburg, PA and Mary Catherine Aston of New Stanton, PA; five grandchildren, Alicia (husband Jason), Lindsay, Joshua, Taylor and Nathaniel “Hoot”; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two brothers, John and George Malinish and a sister, Anna Adams.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 85 Marsh Drive, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Joshua Cavender as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle with full military honors provided by the Cumberland County Honor Guard. There will be a viewing at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle, PA. on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm. and at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of Mass.
