James D. Lucas, Jr., age 84, formerly of Mechanicsburg, passed away Thursday, April 6, 2017 at Claremont Nursing & Rehab Center, Carlisle.
He was born November 2, 1932 in Shiremanstown to the late James D., Sr. and Pauline (Miller) Lucas.
James retired as Chief Petty Officer after having served his country in the United States Navy for 20 years including during the Vietnam War. His second career was as a painting contractor in the greater Harrisburg area. He truly enjoyed the valuable time he spent with his loving grandchildren and great-granddaughters.
He is survived by: two daughters, Rae H. Triplett of Carlisle and Roberta A. (and husband Gregory) Spahr of Dillsburg; a brother, Darrell (and wife Anna) Lucas of New Cumberland; a sister, Joyce (and husband Charles) Shaefer of Mechanicsburg; former wife, Shirley Lucas of Carlisle; son-in-law, Robert A. Triplett of Fredericksburg, VA; five grandchildren, Heather, Daniel and Olivia Spahr, Amanda Bischof and James Triplett; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by two brothers, Sam and Ed Lucas and two sisters, Shirley Stetler and Karen Keller.
In accordance with James’ wishes, services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
