Helen L. Sawyer, 97, of Chapel Pointe at Carlisle, died Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Chapel Pointe.

Born on August 24, 1923 in Louisville, KY, she was the daughter of the late Mitchell and Venus Crosier Irvin and the widow of Rev. Malcolm M. Sawyer.

She attended Nyack College, NY and served as a pastor’s wife and missionary, with her husband, for 49 years. They served in New York and Illinois and overseas in China, Indo China, Laos and Hong Kong. She was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church.

She is survived by four daughters, Janet (Jon) Uhlinger, Camp Hill, Karen (Bill) McKellin, Vancouver, Canada, Susan (Ric) Sweitzer, Middleboro, MA, and Ellen (John) Harles, Camp Hill, and a brother Maurice Irvin.

She has eight grandchildren—Brian (Kim Gildea) Uhlinger and Jay (Anne O’Connor) Uhlinger; Meg (Andrew) Neufeld and Nora McKellin; Katie (Jeremy) Powell, Meredith (Kyle) Mohr, and Jenna (Will) Selander; and Tristan Harles.
She has eleven great-grandchildren—Brendan and Rory Uhlinger; Emily and Ava Neufeld; Claire, Ezra and Jocelyn Powell; Emerson, Hadley and Maddox Mohr; and Roland Selander.

She was preceded in death by brothers Donald and Melvin Irvin and a sister, Muriel Smillie.

No public service is planned at this time. Burial is at the convenience of the family.

Arrangements entrusted to Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road, Carlisle.
