Gerald W. Mapstone

Gerald W. Mapstone, age 93, passed away November 5, 2012.
He was born on 11 April 1919 in South Fork, PA. to Jesse and Anna Mae Mapstone. Upon graduation from the South Fork High School he worked as a coal miner until he joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in which he served for the duration of World War II as a Sergeant in the 19th Anti Submarine Squadron and the 482 Heavy Bombing Group. Prior to overseas movement he married his beloved childhood sweetheart Marjorie Younkins on 28 October 1942. Using his GI bill he graduated from Nyack Missionary College, Nyack, New York. He spent many years working at the Upper Nyack Elementary School until his retirement from Nyack Public School System in 1998. He and his wife were long time residents at the Chapel Pointe Retirement Community in Carlisle. He was active member in numerous Christian and Missionary Alliance Churches serving in a variety of lay positions.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marjorie; sons Reverend Gerald R. (Edna) of New Freedom, PA. and COL (Ret) Terry L. (Bjorg) of Colorado Springs, CO. He is also the grandfather of Kim Gockley (Randy), Kris Mapstone, Scott Mapstone (Denisa) and Ellen Hardy (Chris) and great grandfather of Molly Mapstone, Jack Mapstone, Henry Mapstone, Jayne Mapstone, James Hardy and Sophia Mapstone.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 9, 2012 at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle, 770 South Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. Walter L. Frankenberry officiating. Burial will be in Letort Cemetery, Carlisle with full military honors conducted by Cumberland County Honor Guard. A viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the home.
