George W. Myers

George W. Myers, age 87, of Shippensburg, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2017 at his residence.
He was born July 30, 1930 in Carlisle, to the late Francis B. and Esther M. (Reighter) Myers, and was the husband of Joyce (Gockley) Myers.
George retired from government civil service as a business agent for the Commonwealth of PA Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services. Previously, he was owner/operator of Fibrous Glass Products (now Pyrotek) of Carlisle, followed by owner-partner of Newville Builders’ Supply. Prior to that, he served his country with distinction and honor as a Sergeant First Class in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was an active member of Carlisle United Methodist Church (formerly Grace United Methodist Church), the Star Masonic Lodge #197, and the Carlisle VFW Post #477, as well as being an avid woodworker, traveler, boater, water-skier, and “Cheesehead” following the Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers. George was also a volunteer at Carlisle C.A.R.E.S. and well known as a handyman for his neighbors and church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by: nephews Paul Myers, John Tanger, Philip Tanger, and Michael Tanger; niece Ruth Nickey; and loving caretakers Tara Horn, Jodi, Heather, Chyanne, and Ellie. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by: his brother, Clyde P. Myers; and sisters Kathryn M. Tanger, and Margaret Myers.
Services and interment will be private and at the discretion of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in George’s memory to Carlisle United Methodist Church - 45 S. West St., Carlisle, PA 17013 or to Carlisle C.A.R.E.S. – 50 W. Penn St., Carlisle, PA 17013.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Rd. Carlisle, PA 17013.
