Gary L. Cline, 73, of Carlisle died Saturday, March 8, 2014 at his home.
Born December 10, 1940 in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Orie D. and Betty Jean Hackenberg Cline.
He was a high school teacher in the Carlisle Area School District, retiring in 2001 after thirty-five years of teaching. He formerly worked at the Peter J. Schweitzer Paper Mill in Mount Holly Springs, prior to attending college. He was a graduate of the Shippensburg University, Class of 1966. He was a member of the National Education Association, the PA State Education Association, past-president of the Carlisle Education Association, member and past president of the Carlisle Kiwanis Club, member of the Cumberland County Democratic Party, and a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle. He was a Civil War history buff, especially the Battle of Gettysburg.
Surviving are his wife of forty-eight years, Carolyn R. Clemens Cline of Carlisle; one son, Bradley D. Cline of Pittsburgh; one daughter, Christina L. Powers (and husband, Jeffrey) and their two children, McKenna and Davis of Gainesville, VA; two sisters, Dixie A. Shambaugh (and husband, E. Parker) of Camp Hill and Wendy LeBlanc (and husband, John) of Huntsdale.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 13, 2014 at St Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 West Louther Street, Carlisle with Rev. Carol J. Bowman officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in the Mt. Holly Springs Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
