Eugene E. Kline, 88, of York died Monday, November 2, 2015 at his home.
Born November 8, 1926 in Gettysburg, a son of the late Galen E. and Ruth Lawver Kline, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-two years, Joyce Arlene Goodyear.
Surviving are a son, Gene L. Kline (and wife Aziza H.) of York, two daughters, Susan C. Martin (and husband, Ivan E. III) of Jersey City, NJ and Teresa L. Kline of Washington, D.C., metro area; five grandchildren: Abbey M. Delozier, Christopher E. Kline, Justin M. Kline, Zaynab H. Kline and Ayah H. Kline; and one great grandchild, Teagan R. Delozier.
He graduated from Carlisle High School in 1944 and from Penn State University in 1948 with a B.S.C.E. degree. He was a member of Tau Beta Pi, Chi Epsilon, Pi Mu Epsilon and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies and Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. He was a past Honor Club president of the Sertoma Club of York and a life member of Marion, Ohio B.P.O. Elks Lodge No. 32. He was Chairman of the Basic Course and Special Topics Lecturer for the Advanced Course of the Appalachian Underground Corrosion Short Course at West Virginia University, Morgantown. He was a Professional Engineer and Land Surveyor, holder of a FCC radio/telephone license, and certified as a Corrosion Specialist by the National Society of Corrosion Engineers. He began his engineering work in the oil fields of Lake Maracaibo, Venezuela and went on as a construction engineer for Shade Hill Dam in South Dakota. From there he was a District Engineer for Sinclair Pipe Line Company before being promoted to Eastern Division Engineer for pipelines east of Chicago, including Harbor Pipeline in New Jersey and Tecumseh crude pipeline in Illinois/Indiana/Ohio. This was followed as a Consulting Engineer for corrosion control, including major projects at the U.S. Air Force Academy and the IBM plant in Colorado, the Alcoa plant in southern Indiana, and U.S. military installations in Turkey. Thereafter, he began as a Staff Engineer for York County Gas Company, continuing with Columbia Gas Company, Eastern District, as a District Engineer, District Plant Manager, and District Operations Manager for Plant and Services for five counties in Pennsylvania and Maryland before retiring.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Letort Cemetery, Carlisle. There will be a viewing at Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory, 2020 W. Trindle Road, Carlisle from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the graveside service.
