Ernest William Snider

Ernest William "Bill" Snider, 78, of Carlisle died Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at his home, with his wife by his side. Born September 30, 1934 in Waynesboro, Pa. He was the son of the late Samuel and Nellie Mae Green Snider.
He attended Waynesboro High School and later graduated from the Television Training Institute of Philadelphia and went on to become the owner and operator of Snider Electronics in Carlisle for thirty-five years.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Joan Louise Comp Snider of Carlisle, one son, Shawn Snider of Carlisle, one step-son, Ray M. Sheaffer and wife Susan of Carlisle, four step-grandchildren, Todd and Heather Edgett, Holly Lohrenz & Jennifer Roadcap. Two step-great grandchildren, Ben Roadcap and Jeff Horn. Bill has several cousins who lived in Hagerstown. He loved to hunt and fish and he was truly an animal lover. He was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Snider and one step-daughter Pam Aponte.
Bill joined the United States Marine Corps, serving in Korea with the 1st Tank BN, 1st Marine Division and was honorably discharged on October 13, 1961. Bill was the proud recipient of a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his honorable service during the Korean War, issued by Secretary of Defense
He was a life member of the Marine Corps League, Lewis B. Puller Jr. Detachment 524. Close to his heart was the Toys for Tots program where he spent many hours volunteering. He also received numerous awards and certificates for his involvement with the Marine Corps league and their efforts to support the children in the community during the Christmas season.
Bill served on the board of American Legion, Post 101 for 22 years receiving many certificates of recognition for his hours of service during his tenure. He was also a life member of the VFW, Post 477, AmVets Post 274, all of Carlisle. He also attended the Church of God in Mount Holly Springs, Pa.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Hoffman -Roth Funeral Home, 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:30 am. A brief ceremony will be conducted by the Lewis B. Puller Jr., Detachment 524, followed by a memorial service with Rev. Richard L. Reese and Rev. Timothy D. Wheeler co-officiating. Immediately after the memorial service will be the committal service at Mount Holly Springs Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Cumberland County Honor Guard.
