Douglas R. Smith

Douglas R. Smith, 54, of Newville, passed away on Monday, December 6, 2021, at UPMC Carlisle.
He was born March 29, 1967, in Chambersburg to the late Alice M. (Kline) Smith.
Doug was formerly employed by T.B. Woods in Chambersburg, Hoffman Mills Inc. in Shippensburg for 12 years, and was currently working for Con-way Freight / XPO Logistics in Greencastle for the last 21 years. He was an avid hunter. Doug loved going to car shows, driving in demolition derbies, and working on restoring his 1951 Dodge truck. He loved spending time with friends and family and especially looked forward to the time he spent with his 5 grandchildren.
Doug is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Janet L. (Chronister) Smith of Newville; four sons, Steven W. (wife Brittany) Whisler of Carlisle, Weston J. (wife Andrea) Whisler of Newville, Anthony Smith of Orrstown, and Jonathon Smith of Orrstown; five grandchildren, Zakiah, Dakota, Zaylah, Farrin, and Kynzlee Whisler; and one uncle, Jack Barry (wife Carol) Ensminger of Chambersburg. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his aunt, Deloris Ensminger.
Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, December 10, 2021, at the Hoffman Funeral Home and Crematory, 2020 West Trindle Road Carlisle, PA 17013 with Rev. Robert House officiating. Burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family. A viewing will be held from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
