Dorothy G. Kehler, 90, of Carlisle died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at Sarah A. Todd Memorial Home, Carlisle.
Born Aug. 3, 1920, in Natalie, she was a daughter of the late John and Lossie Lehman Hinks and the widow of the Rev. Albert E. Kehler.
She graduated as salutatorian from Cunningham High School. She was an accomplished pianist.
Dorothy was a member of the former Evangelical Christian Church, now known as Wesleyan Church of the Cross, Carlisle, which was pastored by her husband, the late Rev. Albert E. Kehler. Dorothy was the church organist and pastor’s wife.
Dorothy and her husband also led a Christian radio ministry from the church that was broadcast on WHYL. She also had her own sacred organ ministry, titled “Sacred Organ Melodies” that was broadcast on WHYL.
She loved traveling abroad, including Jamaica, the Holy Lands, the South Pacific and Europe.
Perhaps more than anything else, she will be remembered for her devotion to her Lord, her family, her friends and anyone who enjoyed eating. She will be remembered for her excellent cooking and baking. Her devotion was frequently expressed in her willingness to entertain others. All were welcome to her table and home. Hospitality was extended to visiting missionaries from all parts of the world.
Surviving are two sons, Harry D. Kehler (and wife, Diane) of York and Thomas P. Kehler (and wife, Laurie) of Half Moon Bay, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Harry Hinks; and her sister, Miriam Sweigard.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wesleyan Church of the Cross, 430 B St., Carlisle, with the Rev. Daniel R. Mikesell and the Rev. Ronald Burgard officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Schuylkill Memorial Park, 75 Memorial Drive, Schuylkill Haven.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Monday.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle, is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
