Dorothy "Dot" Evans

February 13, 1927 — December 5, 2017

Dorothy “Dot” Evans, age 90, of Carlisle, passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle surrounded by family.
She was born February 13, 1927 in Wilkes-Barre to the late David James and Ethel (nee Harvey) James Stratton and was the widow of Eugene A. “Gene” Evans who passed January 8, 2010.
Dorothy graduated from Myers High School in Wilkes-Barre in 1944 and continued her education at Wyoming Seminary in Wilkes-Barre. She was most recently employed at Carlisle High School and Dickinson College. Dorothy was an excellent athlete and loved swimming. She still entertained family with her headstands at age 72. She loved to dance, frequenting the Spinning Wheel in Wilkes-Barre where she met her husband Gene. Dorothy was the consummate coach’s wife: a fixture in stadiums and basketball courts; a second mom to countless players; and a thorn in the side of many a referee. She was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle. Dorothy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by: two daughters, Deborah (husband Richard) Smith of Mechanicsburg and Lisa (husband Ron) Hall of Cheney, WA; a son, Dr. David (wife Ali) Evans of Wellington, FL; five grandchildren, Lindsay (husband Thomas) Miller of Mechanicsburg, Brett (wife Amy) Smith of Mechanicsburg, Shaelyn Hall of Cheney, WA, Eric Evans and Sarah Evans of Wellington, FL; and four great-grandchildren, Madison Miller, Kyleigh Miller, Caden Smith and Brynn Smith.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 6, 2017 at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 S Bedford St, Carlisle, PA with Rev. Lisa M. Leber officiating. There will be a time for gathering following the services at the church. Private graveside services will be held at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Central PA for their compassionate care. We would like to express our love and gratitude to the staff at Chapel Pointe who provided care, love and a second family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Chapel Pointe-Carlisle, 770 S. Hanover Street, Carlisle PA 17013, and/or to Homeward Bound Animal Rescue at www.homewardbound2u.rescuegroups.org, and/or to First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 21 S Bedford St, Carlisle, PA 17013.
