Donald H. Hoch, 92, of Carlisle, died Monday, April 1, 2013 at Chapel Pointe at Carlisle.
Born July 11, 1920 in Newville, He was a son of the late Herman F. and Marguerite Stouffer Hoch.
He was a graduate of Carlisle High School, Class of 1938 and attended Carlisle Commercial College. Donald retired as a rural letter carrier for Carlisle Post Office after 35 years of service. He later worked for Farmers Trust Company as a courier and mail clerk until he retired in 1994. He was a member of Good Shepherd Community United Methodist Church, Carlisle, a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association, and a member of the VFW Post 6704, Mechanicsburg. Donald was a US Army veteran who served during WWII with the 36th Infantry Division.
Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Phyllis June Hoch of Carlisle; one daughter, Cyndy H. Slusser (and husband Bob) of Carlisle; three step-daughters, Lin K. Frey (and husband Donald) of Newville, and Susan Spidle (and husband Steve) of Carlisle, Cathy Calaman (and husband Steve) of Carlisle; two step-sons, Bob Arnold of Newville and Bill Arnold of Gardners; two sisters, Betty Miller and Chloe Hair both of Carlisle; two grandchildren, Dawn McCreary (and husband Tim) of Carlisle and Justin Slusser (and wife Nicole) of Carlisle; four step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Liz and James McCreary. He was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Lance Hoch and Eric Alan Hoch and their mother, Mary Kling Hoch.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2013 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. George Hufnagel officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle with military honors conducted by Cumberland County Honor Guard. A viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
