Delia Ann Taylor Lewis, 88, formerly of Hamilton, Ohio passed away Wednesday May 2, 2012 at Thornwald Home In Carlisle Pa.
Delia Ann was born in Harlan County, KY December 31, 1923. She was the daughter of the late Robert Lee Taylor and Louisa Creech Taylor and widow of Kimber Lewis.
She grew up in Harlan County, KY and attended a one room school in Big Laurel, KY until age 11. From age 11 Delia Ann attended and graduated from Pine Mountain Settlement School. She had fond memories of Pine Mountain Settlement school. She remained supportive and devoted to the school for a life time. She spoke often of the many friends she grew up with at the school.
Delia Ann was a graduate of Eastern Kentucky State University in Richmond, KY July 29, 1953.
Delia Ann was an elementary school teacher. She taught in Harlan, KY and for 33 years in Hamilton, OH. She taught third grade at Polk Elementary School and Pierce Elementary School in Hamilton.
Delia Ann was devoted to her profession. When she was 83 she visited her great-nephew's 4th grade class. During her visit she patiently explained to the teacher that her classroom walls were way too cluttered making it difficult for her students to focus.
Delia Ann had great compassion for animals. She had a special love for dogs and was supportive toward the Butler County Ohio humane society.
Her hobbies were bird-watching and gardening.
Delia Ann is survived by nieces Glenna Taylor Cox and husband Jim of Carlisle, PA, Betty J. Taylor Johnson and husband Ronald of Powell,TN, Pearl Taylor Ewalt and husband Charles of Las Vegas, NV, Beth Taylor Carlander of Orlando, FL and Ann Taylor Thompson of Frankfort, KY. Also nephews Clark Taylor and wife Sherry of Corbin, KY, Mark Taylor and wife Linda of Richmond, VA, and Claude Taylor of FL. Also several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Delia Ann was preceded in death by brothers John Taylor and wife Elsie, Henry Taylor, Frank Taylor and wife Grace, sister Stella Taylor LaMoreaux and husband Hubert. Two nephews Bobby Taylor and Kenneth Taylor.
Service will be held at Webb Noonan Kidd Funeral Home, Ross Ave. at D Street, Hamilton, OH, Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. A viewing will be held from 10:30 until the time of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery, 1602 Greenwood Ave. Hamilton, OH.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Delia Ann to Animal Friends Humane Society, 1820 Princeton Road, Hamilton, OH 45011.
