D. Maxine Phillipy

D. Maxine Phillipy, age 92, of Carlisle, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 at the M.S. Hershey Medical Center.
Maxine was born October 1, 1925 in Carlisle to the late Emory W. and Esther M. (Newcomer) Bretz and was the widow of William T. Phillipy, III.
Max, as she was often called, graduated from Carlisle HS in 1943, and was a vocalist for the Red McCarthy big band during the 1940’s. Prior to raising children, she worked as a legal secretary. Maxine was a woman of class and grace who was most happy when surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by: a son, William Phillipy IV and his children, William T. V, Elizabeth M. and Madeline P.; a daughter, Constance Herman of Carlisle and her children, Mitch, Luke, Clay, Sally and Reid; one great-grandson, Bentley; and two sisters, Jeanne Weeks of Austin, TX and Forrestine Gilpatrick of Atlanta, Ga. In addition to her parents and husband, Maxine was preceded in death by a brother, William G. Bretz.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family at Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoffman Funeral Home & Crematory.
