Cody J."Tex" Koppenhaver

August 9, 1993 — December 14, 2017

Cody J., “Tex” Koppenhaver, age 24, was taken suddenly from this world on December 14, 2017 after losing his battle against addiction.
Born on August 9, 1993 in Harrisburg, PA, Cody is the son of Billie Jo Barrick (Shadle) and James Koppenhaver.
Cody was a bright, passionate young man who had an infectious smile and a charming personality that could sweet talk even the coldest of hearts. His children were the light of his life, even when that addiction made the light flicker, Cody was always trying to make it back to sobriety for his children. Cody had two great loves in his short life; Alisha Thrush and Danielle Updike. Alisha was his first and Danielle was his last.
Cody loved to ride bulls, but he never thought he would draw the unlucky bull, the one who would ultimately end his career as a rider and set the wheels of addiction in motion. Yet, he did, and prescription pills became the gateway to heroin. However, Cody never wanted to be defined nor remembered by his addiction. We will remember Cody as a role model to his children and younger brothers, a protector to his sisters, a loving yet mischievous son, a friend who not only would give you the shirt off his back but also encourage you to drift your car in the snow, a boyfriend who had the best of intentions for Danielle. Cody loved his music, his cowboy hat and everyone in his life. He had a talent for drawing and playing guitar and could always find humor in the darkest of times.
Cody is survived by: his children, Brayden Koppenhaver, born to Cody and Alisha Thrush and Reese Koppenhaver, born to Cody and Danielle Updike; his mother, Billie Jo Barrick and step-father, Richard Barrick; his significant other, Danielle Updike; his siblings, Ashlee Koppenhaver, Kaylee Fulkroad, Emilee Fulkroad, Garrett Barrick, Cody Barrick and Adin Barrick; and his grandmothers, Linda Shadle and Dianne Barrick. Cody is also survived by: his father, James Koppenhaver and his spouse, Candy and their children; his paternal grandparents, Karen and Michael Koppenhaver; his paternal great-grandmother, Doris Koppenhaver; and many aunts and uncles, cousins, and nephews. Cody was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles R Shadle and Uncle, Carl J Shadle.
