Clyde Luther Adams

Clyde Luther Adams, 88, of Carlisle, died April 1, 2012 at Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

Born April 8, 1923, in Carlisle, he was a son of the late Leroy and Emma Ruth Nickel Adams.

He was a graduate of Carlisle High School. Clyde owned the former Adams Grocery in Carlisle. He was a building codes inspector for the Borough of Carlisle and York. During World War II he fought in France, Germany, and the Aleutian Islands. He fought during the Battle of the Bulge, and was part of the initial Rainbow Division that liberated Dachau. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Betty Ruth Adams of Carlisle; five children, Starr Frances Zynski of Camp Hill, Michael Adams of Elizabethtown, Robert Clyde Adams of Carlisle, Patti Jo Adams of Carlisle and Steven Allen Adams of Dallas, Texas; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Jane Adams; and brothers and sisters, Richard Leroy Adams, Virginia Pearl Baker, Robert Eugene Adams, Ruth Ann Blumenstock, Ross Adams, and Lee Adams.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 5, 2012, at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover St., Carlisle with Rev. Timothy Sadler officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
