Clara L. Woods

Clara L. Woods, 82, passed away at her daughter’s home on Wednesday, August 15, 2012. She was born December 4, 1929 in Newville to the late Paul T. and Viola E. Stum. She was married to Ralph A. Woods for 51 years and widowed in 2003.
She was a seamstress, who enjoyed making clothing for herself, and her family, including several wedding gowns. In the 1960’s she was a Cumberland County 4-H sewing club leader. Clara enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening. Clara was a housekeeper/nanny for 8-10 families in the Carlisle area, with many keeping in touch over the years.
She attended Doublin Gap First Church of God and Come Ye in Mission, where she taught Sunday School Classes for years.
She is survived by one daughter, Wilmale W. Thomas of Carlisle; two sons, Robert A. Woods (and wife, Margaret) of Elliottsburg; Stephen L. Woods (and wife, Linda) of Glen Garden, NJ; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Esther Varner of Boiling Springs; two brothers, Edgar L. Stum of Newville and John R. Stum of Carlisle. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ebert M. Stum and Paul Stum, Jr.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 20, 2012 at Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 North Hanover Street, Carlisle with Rev. Dennis Killinger officiating. Burial will be in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle. A viewing will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, August 19, 2012 and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home.
