Christine R. Fraley

Christine Roberts Fraley, 98, died on Monday, May 4, 2015 at Luther Crest Retirement Village in Allentown where she had been a resident since September 2003.
She was born December 23, 1916 in Harrisburg to the late John Henry Chasmar and Christine Smith Roberts and was the widow of Donald Symons Fraley, Sr. whom she married on June 8, 1940.
Christine graduated from Ridgewood High School, Ridgewood, NJ in 1934 and received her A.B. in English and History from Moravian College for Women in 1938. She went on to receive her Masters in Education from the University of Pittsburgh in 1963 and did post masters work at St. Lawrence University and SUNY at Potsdam. She taught second grade at Jefferson Elementary in the South Butler School District in western PA from 1959 to 1966 and was a reading specialist at Lisbon Central School District in St. Lawrence County, NY from 1966 until her retirement in 1979. She was a member of Allison Methodist Church in Carlisle, PA. Christine was president of the American Legion Auxiliary in Broomall, PA after World War II. After she retired, she served as president of the Carlisle Chapter of the AAUW from 1984 to 1986 and the Civic Club of Carlisle from 1990 to 1992.
She is survived by a son, Douglas Roberts (and wife Sarajayne) Fraley of Quakertown, PA; a daughter, Christine (and husband Edward) Lambert of Penn Hills, PA; a daughter-in-law, Zella (and husband Bobby Dodge) Zeigler of Coupeville, WA; three grandsons; and four great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Dr. Donald Symons Fraley, Jr.
Private graveside services will be held at Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle, PA with Rev. James E. VanZandt officiating.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc., 219 N. Hanover Street, Carlisle, PA is handling the arrangements.
