Barton Davis

Barton Davis, of Carlisle PA, passed away peacefully on Saturday April 22, 2012 at the Hershey Medical Center.
He was born in Philadelphia on May 13, 1925. He was the son of Mathew and Sadie Davis. As a young man he served in World War II during 1944 and 1945; he fought as an infantryman in France and Germany and served in the occupation of Germany after VE-Day.
Upon his return from the war he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University), and worked as a surveyor in Philadelphia before commencing a career in construction and homebuilding. After his marriage to Jacqueline Fisher, he lived in Ridley Township, PA and then in Malvern, PA. As an independent general contractor, he built homes and apartments in southeastern PA and New Jersey. Upon his retirement as a general contractor, he worked for GMB Architectural and Engineering Corporation of Salisbury, MD, and later as a building inspector for Charleston Township, PA.
He was a talented and skilled woodworker who enjoyed making furniture and wooden boats. In 2010 he moved to Carlisle, where he continued his woodworking hobbies and enjoyed the company of his children and his dear late-in-life friend – John Broujos of Carlisle.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, and loyal friend. He is survived by by his loving wife of 54 years, Jacqueline Davis, of Carlisle; his sons, Cooper Townsend, of Salisbury, MD and Mathew Davis, of Philadelphia; a daughter, Tami Davis Biddle and her husband Stephen, of Carlisle; two granddaughters, Sara Townsend Hasting, of Fruitland, MD and Anna Biddle, of Carlisle; his grandson Isaac Davis, of Paoli, his nephew, Larry Davis, of San Francisco and a niece Betsy Davis, of Los Angeles, CA.
A military interment and Celebration of Life ceremony will take place in Malvern, PA in May.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home and Crematory, 219 N. Hanover St. Carlisle is in charge of arrangements.
