Anthony C. Kar

February 13, 1940 — February 12, 2023

Anthony C. Kar, 82, of Carlisle embarked upon his next spiritual journey surrounded by his loving

family on Sunday, February 12th, 2023 at his home of 40 years. Tony was born February 13th, 1940 in Hong Kong to the late Na Fu and Oi Che (Ng) Kar. As a young man, Tony traveled to the US and resided with his late Auntie Sui Chu in Chinatown, NY. Tony worked at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY for 17 years before moving to PA and taking a job with DEP where he eventually retired. Tony loved living life in the great outdoors, and worked many years as an environmental steward both by profession, and at leisure. He was a compassionate hunter, an adventurous foodie, took pride in his agricultural working of the land, practiced horsemanship, and loved going fishing with his buddies. One of their favorite places to fish is, and will always be, the St. Lawrence River. Plenty a fish-tale to be told about this place, grown from a time of great memories. During his retirement years, Tony enjoyed working as a lifeguard at the Family YMCA, and staying in shape at both the YMCA and Gold’s Gym. Anthony is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Susan C. (Shipman) Kar; their daughter, Sarah T. (husband Casey) Sweigart of Carlisle; two sisters, Helen Chan of Hong Kong and Betty (husband Richard) Yiu of Hong Kong; one brother, Kevin Kar of Hong Kong; and his wise grandson, Jordan Sweigart. He is also survived by three other grown children, Adrienne Kar, Anthony F. Kar, and Deirdre (Kar) Hasson. In addition to his parents, Tony was preceded in death by his brother in law Sai Bun Chan. A celebration of Tony’s life will be announced at a later date. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Tony to the Bosler Memorial Library, 158 West High Street Carlisle, PA 17013. To sign the guestbook please visit
