November 16, 1935 — December 23, 2022

Annetta (Beanie, Netta, Nettie, Netter) M. Bean, 87, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Friday, December 23, 2022, at Country Meadows Retirement Community after a valiant and noble walk with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born November 16, 1935, in Red Lion to the late Arthur and Ella (Hart) Bean.

Annetta was a 1953 graduate of Chambersburg Area Senior High School where she was known as a gifted vocalist. Her graduating class voted her most likely to become a metropolitan opera star. After attending Gettysburg College majoring in voice/music, she continued with her passion for music by singing with the Sweet Adeline’s, Cumberland Singers, and several church choirs.

Annetta spent the first part of her adult life living in Camp Hill, PA while working at Cumberland Valley High School. In 1978 she moved to San Diego and spent the next 25 years working for San Diego State University. Upon retirement, she moved back to the east coast, living in Mechanicsburg, PA, and continued working part time in the college environment for Dickinson College. While living in California, she loved to travel the world and experience the many different cultures for which she visited including Europe, Asia, Down Under, Canada, and the Caribbean.

Annetta was a loving and devoted Mother to her two sons, David and Bryan, a loving sister to Mary, Doris and Gloria, and a wonderful Aunt and Great Aunt to her nieces and nephews. She is survived by one son, David Kohler of Carlisle, PA; one sister, Gloria Carr of Dover, PA; two nephews, Michael (husband Todd) Sheffer of Palm Springs, CA and Jeffrey (wife Alice) Carr of Landisville, PA; one niece, Cheryl (husband Greg) Aukamp of Old Fort, NC; her ex-husband and the father of her two boys, Joseph (wife Janice) Kohler of Scotland, PA; and numerous great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

It has been said that to have friends, you have to be a friend, and Annetta surely knew how to do that. Her friends were many, and very important to her. She was a happy person who tried to look on the positive side of life. She felt God gave each of us a great gift of life, and it was our responsibility to make the choices we make.
