Alan Duxbury

August 30, 1947 — July 27, 2022

Alan Duxbury, age 74, exceptionally loving husband of Mary Faller Duxbury, passed away July 27, 2022

Well…I did it! I popped my clogs, albeit sooner than I had hoped. With my cancer diagnosis and one-year life expectancy in January ‘20, I still gained time…but wanted so much more. When I came to the Harrisburg Hospital for a knee replacement on July 15th, my oxygen levels were too low, and a fine mess was discovered in my lungs…many little dangerous pieces and crackles! Unfortunately, they did me in! The Care Team couldn’t have been nicer or offered more support! What a life I had though…who’d a thunk it.

I was born August 30, 1947, in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Leicestershire, England with the help of my departed loving parents, Joan and James Duxbury. Moving to Burton-on-Trent when I was 10, I was told I would attend the very proper English Bolton School for boys…NOT my choice as I was bored out of my gourd! So, at 17, I set out on my own. My life’s dream dropped in my lap when I was deemed very intelligent and excited enough to begin my lifetime love of “playing” with computers. One of the first was a mammoth Honeywell that filled a room. Many versions and original manuals later, I was all in…getting paid for playing! In 1972, I met the first love of my life…my baby daughter, Karen Joanna! What a joy from then to now with granddaughter, Isobel. So glad she loved Carlisle and the family too!

In 1994, I met the second great love of my life, although I had to wait patiently until 1998 for an appropriate time to declare my love. I married Mary Faller in 1999, which without doubt was the smartest thing I ever did. Now…the Faller family is a different story. The crew was led by the late George and Elaine who managed to produce eight offspring in just 16 years: Nancy, Mary, David, Therese (with Tom), Helen (Chip), Constantine (Kathy), George (Patty), and Michael (Rose). Trying to identify and remember this many names and faces was a daunting assignment! Then there were the grands…all…17(?) of them. Each one of the family is a joy!

Carlisle easily became my favorite town and with our Carlisle House B & B and interesting positions on boards and associations, I had a smashing good time! Thanks to all!

I’ve said too much and I’m tired now. I’m waiting for you Mary! To Sleep…Perchance to Dream.
